A Journey from Struggle to Purpose

I am Krishna Bholan Lama, and my life’s journey has been one of resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Born in the hilly district of Makwanpur, Nepal, I grew up in a village where education was a distant dream, and poverty dictated our paths. The lack of opportunities forced me to leave home at just sixteen, venturing to West Pokhara in search of a better future.

With no formal education and little to my name, I found work in a kitchen, hoping it would provide a way forward. But unfair wages and harsh conditions soon made me realize that survival alone was not enough—I needed to find a way to rise beyond mere existence. Determined to take control of my own journey, I left the kitchen behind and took my first steps into the world of trekking—not as a guide, but as a porter.

Carrying heavy loads across rugged trails, I walked hundreds of kilometers, enduring the harsh realities of the mountains. The work was grueling, but I embraced it with hope and determination, knowing that each step was a lesson, each trail an opportunity. Over the years, through sheer perseverance and hard-earned experience, I worked my way up—from porter to assistant guide, and finally to a full-fledged trekking guide.

Leading travelers from around the world, I discovered that the Himalayas were more than just breathtaking peaks—they were a way of life, a culture, and a story waiting to be told. But amidst the beauty, I also saw heartbreaking struggles. In the remote villages I passed through, I encountered countless children without access to education, orphaned by poverty or abandoned by circumstance. Many were at risk of trafficking, child labor, and exploitation.

I couldn’t ignore their struggles—I had once been one of them.

In 2014, I founded Step By Step Trek and Adventure—not just as a trekking company, but as a platform for change. My goal was to redefine adventure tourism, making it about more than just travel—ensuring that every journey we take gives back to the land and the people who make it possible.

This vision later led to the creation of FourPOSE Charity, an independent initiative dedicated to supporting education, rebuilding schools, and empowering vulnerable children in rural Nepal. I realized that many rural schools lacked classrooms, essential learning materials, and basic support systems—a struggle made worse by the 2015 earthquake, which left even more children at risk. Through FourPOSE Charity, we work to bridge these gaps, ensuring that children in underprivileged communities receive the support they need to build a brighter future.

Today, while Step By Step Trek and Adventure continues to offer transformative travel experiences, it also serves as a catalyst for meaningful change. A portion of our earnings contributes to FourPOSE Charity’s initiatives, helping provide educational resources and opportunities for Nepal’s most vulnerable children.

As someone who has walked this journey from hardship to hope, I believe that true adventure isn’t just about reaching the highest peaks—it’s about lifting others in the community we serve.

This is my story, but more importantly, this is our shared journey.
Together, we can turn travel into transformation—changing lives, one step at a time.
